The Hemlock wood material used to build the antique style museum vitrine, as well as the wood specimens contained inside, are taken from a site in upstate New York where Eastern Hemlock trees are dying due to the invasive species Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA).

The HWA Lamp was made to overhang and light the HWA Vitrine. A lamp was chosen to metaphorically shed light on the issue of the invasive species Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.
